A note from Cary...
|
| Hello!
How are you?? Little warm, huh? Does it make you feel better seeing all the fall consignment sales knowing that the fall season is just around the corner? (By the way, LOVE the consignment sales! Recycle, reuse and make a little cash!)
I wanted to send you a note to tell you I have been thinking about all of you, all 1,400 of you! That is right, over 1,400 families subscribe to Social Butterflies! There aren't many times when I take space out of the newsletter just to chat,
but there are so many new SB families I thought I might reintroduce
myself. My family lives in Apex. My husband, Rob, is cute and sweet and from Connecticut. He is an IT guy and thankfully can help me out with my technical issues. =) I am a stay at home mom of two. Our oldest, Ashlin, is 5 and we just sent her to kindergarten!! My youngest,
Carver, is 4. He is at home with me with the exception of a few preschool mornings a week. We spent a lot of time in Myrtle Beach before school
started. Myrtle is where I grew up. I am not a blogger, or a writer or a very good editor. You, the one with the red pen, you make me nervous! =) I enjoy creating Social Butterflies each month as a service to you and your busy families. I pull the events in the area that I think you would find most interesting and hopefully lay out the details in a format you find easy and quick to read.
I love hearing from you and I welcome your suggestions for events. SB sponsors are so great, just a pleasure to work with! With the support of advertisers, I can bring this service to you without charge.
I have started a new business, Stay at Home Rock Star tees
for moms (and dads) who stay at home and ROCK! Is that you?? =)
on the NEW Triangle TRACKS Marketplace.
I hope your summer has been a great one! I'd love to see pics of your families out and about. Please email me at CaryHeise@yahoo.com.
Best, Cary

Community, Back to school and Food Allergy Awareness
|
| A note from SB Mom...
New clothes, new backpacks, new notebooks, new signs on the classroom doors regarding food allergiesinside. These are all indicators of the start of a new school year. And with as many as 8% of school aged children having food allergies,
odds are your child will be in a classroom with one of them sometime
during their academic career.
The most common food allergies in children are to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, fish, shellfish, wheat, and soy. While peanut allergiesoften become the focus because of the high number of children with a
potentially life threatening reaction to them, bear in mind that any food allergycan be life threatening. There are kids who can't tolerate the smell of egg or touch of milk and have reactions requiring immediate medical assistance.
So as a parent of a non-allergic child, how does this affect you? Try to be mindful of kids with food allergies.
If you want to celebrate your child's birthday at school how about
sending in a fun party favor instead of food so everyone can partake.
Try using sun butter as a peanut butter substitute in school lunchesand snacks. Teach your children not to share food with others. Just
because something appears "safe" doesn't mean it is. Learn how to read
food allergy warning labels on prepackaged foods. Those pretzels, dried fruits, or jellybeans your kids are eating might not be safe for someone with a milk or nut allergy.
No, we don't expect everyone to accommodate a food allergy in every
situation, but lets make sure we teach our children that different is ok. And kids are often happy to talk about their food allergies, so
just ask if you have questions.
Happy back to school!
Jaime is the Mom of a wonderful child who happens to be allergic to peanuts and tree nuts.
